Damn! It was a lot of work but I'm realy satisfacted of the result. It was the first time I painted galaxy (of course I needed these brushes help: [link][link]žion=&global=1&q=galaxy+brushes#/d1lxqal ) and I think it came out quite well.
While I've seen a great deal of mystical anthro wolf art and am starting to get a bit weary of the theme, the sheer scale and vision in this piece is staggering. By giving the subject wings and placing it against the backdrop of a galaxy, the artist elevates this work far above the other mystical/magical themed pieces I've seen.
Then there is the actual subject herself. The wings are the most notable and unexpected feature. Combine that with the background and we get a definite "Creator" vibe, as though this winged wolf is the creative source of all existence. This is a tremendous asset to the epic feel and scale of this piece.
I must also commend the detail work. The subjects fur is well defined and actually looks as though it would feel and behave like real fur. Perhaps the biggest standout of this piece however, is the background. Had the artist not said they painted the galaxy, I would have sworn that it was a photograph of some sort. The choice of colors is also noteworthy. The red and green flourishes complement the blue nicely, and the few patches of flat black that are visible help ground the background and keep it from feeling like a pure cloud of magic. The black reminds us that we are in outer space, which further increases the impact of the piece.
I also think that setting the wolf to the side of the composition was a wise move, as it allows both the subject and the galactic background to shine.
All in all, this is a beautiful piece that I am quite happy to add to my favorites gallery. In fact, it may have just raised the bar for what I favorite from here on out.
absolutely beautiful!!! Love the colors the most!!! I love wolves as well!!! the light, the eyes (one different from the other), the hair, the jewelry, the feathers the background. it looks like this is happening somewhere at some kind of mystical out-of-space the wolf looks like a beautiful animal deity!!! the only think I been wondering... why does it look so skinny? well... I know u had your reasons.
anyways... that's a wonderful piece of art! I love it! keep up the good work!!! and just to let you know... u have a new watch and a big fan now!
This is incredibly epic! This also reminded me of WoW.. I just wished there could be a purely wolf-like race as well.. Not just humans who happened to become Worgens... It would be more natural this way... Anyways, nice work! I really appreciate what you did.
